Since 1891, the Pikes Peak Cog Railway has been taking visitors on a safe, comfortable and relaxing journey to the summit of majestic Pikes Peak, 14,110 feet. From the mountain top, it's possible to see four states, the snow-covered peaks of the Continental Divide, the cities of Denver, Manitou Springs, Colorado Springs and the historic gold camps of Cripple Creek and Victor.
Along the route, you will also enjoy fantastic rock formations, colorful forests of pine and aspen and breathtaking cliffs all from the comfort and safety of the world's highest cog train and the highest railroad in the United States. The scenic grandeur will inspire you as it did Katherine Lee Bates, who wrote the words to “America the Beautiful” after a trip to the summit in the late 1800's! On this unforgettable journey, the conductor will entertain you with the history and facts of the mountain, the region and the engineering feat that is the Manitou and Pikes Peak Railway. Your Cog Railway trip will take you through four life zones from lush high plains to fragile alpine tundra. You'll pass cascading streams as you wind through a steep canyon of gigantic boulders and tall pines towards your destination well above tree line. The aspen groves and dense pine forests along the way are home to elk, deer and bear. The dramatic granite cliffs often reveal playful yellow-bellied marmots and magnificent Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep.
The Historic Manitou Springs Depot is where your Pikes Peak journey begins and ends. You can shop for unique collectibles, apparel and railroading souvenirs in the Steamer Stop Shop. The Cog Wheel Cafe offers breakfast, lunch and light dinner fare, which can be enjoyed leisurely on the patio by the tracks or taken aboard the train. All aboard for your ticket to the Top of Colorado!
