Itinerary day 1
Day 1 Overview
My grandfather used to say, “you only get so many heartbeats in this life, be sure you use them wisely.” It was his way of telling me to live life to its fullest and spend those beats in exhilaration rather than regret. He also used to ask me, “if your friends all jumped off a cliff, would you?”
And my answer was always, “who do you think gave them the idea?”
If you relate to any of that, then do I have an itinerary for you! It’s packed with wind-in-your-hair, river-splashing, 100-mile-an-hour fun. With any luck, you’ll have killer stories to tell your grandkids! Life is short, so fill your vacation with moments that take your breath away. I dare you!
UP AND AT ’EM!
Get up and get going early for this first adventure. You’ll want to catch the river early. I’d recommend grabbing coffee and a breakfast burrito on the go. Taco Express or La Casita usually does the trick.
Echo Canyon River Expeditions
For an epic adventure, just add water
The folks at Echo Canyon say the 9:30 float is their favorite, and they ought to know. They’ve been guiding river trips for 40 years now. At 9:30, the morning chill is gone, and the heat of the day hasn’t hit yet. Whether this is your first time on the river, or you live in river shoes, isn’t that the kind of expertise you’re looking for? With more training and experience than any other outfitter on the river, the choice is pretty darn easy.
With Echo’s 40 years of experience, they’ll put you on the ride that’s perfect for you!
Refuel with new friends
8 Mile Bar and Grill is the perfect place for lunch after your workout on the river. It’s located on the Echo Canyon property, has seriously tasty vittles and a killer selection of local craft brews on tap. You’re gonna want to hang out and swap stories at the fire pit. Trust us.
Royal Gorge Bridge & Park
Zip line 1200 feet off the ground!
Okay thrill seeker, now you’ve probably got a zip line or two under your belt, but have you ridden one across a gorge? Fly 1200 feet over the Arkansas River, from one side of the gorge to the other on the Cloudscraper Zip Line. We think it’s the closest humans ever get to flying short of jumping out of a perfectly good plane.
Some think the Royal Rush Skycoaster is closer to the sensation of flight. At 50 mph, this giant bungee momentarily swings you 1200 feet over the gorge. We can’t wait to hear your favorite!
Brand New for 2019: One more awesome way to test your mettle. Royal Gorge Bridge and Park just installed a Via Ferrata on the cliff face of the gorge. Italian for Iron Road, this horizontal climbing wall will at once test and reaffirm that this is one heck of a life you’re living!
Don’t forget to take a stroll across the bridge and find your home-state flag!
