Challenge Unlimited - Pikes Peak by Bike
Wind in your hair level: EPIC
You can drive it. You can hike it. But only those with a true thirst for life will take two wheels down it. This has all the joys of flying down America’s favorite fourteener without the grind of riding up 8,000 feet in elevation. Your adventure starts at their building in Old Colorado City where you’ll get fitted for bike and gear, have a chance to grab a bite to eat, and meet the guides and other venturers. Once everyone is ready, load up in their passenger vans for the trip to the summit.
Challenge Unlimited has all the gear, guides and grub you’ll need to get you down the mountain in comfort. Not to mention the fact that they’ve been taking visitors on this adventure for nearly 30 years! They bring the snacks, water and extra layers of clothes for cooler mountain temps. They’ve got all the safety gear, too, you just bring your sense of adventure.
At the summit, they’ll give you a quick lesson in shifting the bike, and then it’s nothing but blue skies and wind in your face. At the bottom of those beautiful 20 miles, Challenge Unlimited will take you to Wines of Colorado to refuel, before returning to their basecamp. That gives you plenty of time to swap stories with the other daredevils.

Wines of Colorado
As part of your 20-mile bike ride, Challenge Unlimited includes lunch at Wines of Colorado, at the base of the Pikes Peak Highway. Enjoy a glass of Colorado wine – you earned it!

You're not going to stop now, are you?
We’re just kidding. Sort of. You’ve been going non-stop for three days. It’s time to take a beat, enjoy some down time and soak up that Colorado vibe. We love to play hard, but we know how to slow it down and enjoy these surroundings. There are a lot of great places to chill, several you’ve already gotten to experience. Maybe your new cycling buddies will want to hook up at a local brewery later, or you can always head back and spend some more time at one of your favorites, like Manitou Springs, Echo Canyon, Royal Gorge Bridge & Park or Cave of the Winds Mountain Park. You can also look for a new adventure in one of our other itineraries or pop into a couple of local businesses and ask the folks behind the counter where there favorite place is. You may find that Colorado is so full of awesome adventures, you’re going to need to come back — and we’ll be happy to see you every time you do. So what are you waiting for? It’s time to jump, my friends!
Local’s Tip: People are super friendly here, don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with the locals. You’d be amazed how excited they get to tell you about their favorite hiking trail or favorite local brewery.
Time allowance: The next 40-50 years. 🙂
Mild Colorado Evenings
While you’re in Manitou Springs, check out some of the local restaurants and night life spots. From places to belly up and grab a great burger to romantic fondue and sommelier curated wine lists, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for.
