Legends and Lore of Fairview Cemetery
Presented by Old Colorado City Historical Society at Fairview Cemetery Colorado Springs, CO
Beneath the October sky, Fairview Cemetery splits into two worlds. Step beyond the gates and leave the present behind. For our annual Legends & Lore Cemetery Crawl, the paths of Fairview will be transformed into two very different sides of town. Follow the red lights into the darker streets……the side of town where temptation, trouble, murder and secrets were never far away. Then cross into the white lighted streets of the respectable side of town, where shopkeepers, business owners, families and ordinary citizens built their lives and tried to keep order. DON’T ASSUME THE “BAD SIDE” OF TOWN WAS AS SHADY AS IT SEEMED OR THAT THE “GOOD SIDE” OF TOWN WAS AS INNOCENT AS IT LOOKED! Pikes Peak Historical Societies Chautauqua
Presented by Pikes Peak Historical Society at Lake George Charter School Lake George, CO
Soiled Doves: The Working Women of Colorado's Boom Days is the topic of the October Chautauqua, presented by Pikes Peak Historical Society (PPHS). Prostitution in the Old West was widespread. In every mining camp, railroad stop, trading outpost, boom town, or military fort, a lonely man looking for love could find a woman willing to tend to his needs... for a price. The stories of the often-forgotten women who came out to the Wild West inspired Julie Blanda, and avid history enthusiast, to create her Soiled Doves presentation. Blanda enjoys researching various aspects of Leadville's past. The Soiled Doves presentation encompasses a brief mining history of Leadville and Summit and Chaffee Counties, and those who came out West to seek riches, including the women, and many who did not find fortune. Blanda will discuss the varied aspects of prostitution in the mid to late-1800's and into the 1900s, from their day-to-day lives to an in-depth description of differences between a parlor girl and a crib girl, and from their clientele to their housing. There will be numerous fun facts and humorous accounts throughout the presentation. This presentation is not suitable for young children. About the Presenter: Blanda hails from Indiana and her parents still live in her hometown of Mishawaka. She attended Indiana University at Bloomington, graduating in 2002 with a General Studies degree, minoring in History and English. In June 2016 she moved to Leadville from Asheville, North Carolina, where she worked as a civil litigation paralegal. Blanda is…

Screen-Free Hobby Night at Goat Patch Brewing
Presented by Pop-Up Art Café at Goat Patch Brewing Company Colorado Springs, CO
When was the last time you spent an evening creating instead of scrolling? Join Pop-Up Art Café for a screen-free evening dedicated to creativity, community, and being present. Bring a screen-free hobby you’ve been meaning to make more time for — a sketchbook, journal, knitting, crochet, embroidery, coloring book, collage supplies, a book to read, or whatever you're into. Goat Patch will have beer and other beverages as well as a food truck available for purchase throughout the evening. What to bring Bring any screen-free hobby you'd like to work on. Think drawing, painting, journaling, knitting, crochet, embroidery, collage, coloring, reading, or something entirely your own. Goat Patch is offering $1 off pints.
