Palmer Lake Historical Society presents John Anderson: "Anza vs. Cuerno Verde, the 1779 Comanche Campaign"
Presented by Palmer Lake Historical Society at Palmer Lake Town Hall Palmer Lake, CO
Palmer Lake Historical Society is Honored to Present John Anderson: “Anza vs. Cuerno Verde, the 1779 Comanche Campaign" This event is part of the America 250 / Colorado 150 celebration in 2026. Commemorating Colorado’s shared history, honoring our unique people, cultures, and communities. The Palmer Lake Historical Society is honored to present John Wesley Anderson who will speak about Anza vs. Cuerno Verde, the 1779 Comanche Campaign. This is a story about two fearless men, Spanish Governor Juan Bautista de Anza and the Comanche Warchief Cuerno Verde (Green Horn), both determined to protect their people and preserve their cultural way of life. While the legacy of Juan Bautista de Anza is well established in much of the American Southwest, his influence during the 18th Century remains relatively unknown across today’s Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado. To punish the Comanche, Governor Anza left Santa Fe with a combined force of 600 mounted soldiers, who were joined enroute by 200 Ute and Jicarilla Apache. They traveled north around Sierra del Almagre (Pikes Peak), down the Ute Pass, and attacked the Comanche base camp on August 31, 1779, near present-day Colorado Springs, Colorado. John has a MBA, and is a TEDx speaker, published author and storyteller. He is retired from a 30-year law enforcement career; including 22 years with the Colorado Springs Police Department and eight years serving as the elected Sheriff for El Paso County, Colorado. John has a love of history, writing and the arts and has published eight…

Nerd Nite COS
Presented by Storyfull Matchmaking at Ivywild School Auditorium Colorado Springs, CO
🤓 NERD NITE COLORADO SPRINGS: PREDATORS, PARTICLES & PECULIARITIES Three talks. Three wildly different rabbit holes. One very nerdy night. This month, we’re exploring the science of predators, the mysteries of the universe, and the chemistry hiding in plain sight in the colors around us. 🦅 FALCONRY How do you hunt alongside a wild predator you don’t actually control? We’ll hear from an experienced falconer about the history of falconry, the relationship between human and bird, and what a real hunt looks like from beginning to end. 🌌 SPACE & THE UNIVERSE We’re going big. Really big. Expect a trip into space, physics, and some of the strange questions that come up when you start thinking about how the universe actually works. 🎨 THE CHEMISTRY OF COLOR Before you could grab any color you wanted off a store shelf, creating vibrant dyes could involve rare materials, complicated chemistry, foul-smelling concoctions, and an astonishing amount of work. We’ll trace the science of color from ancient pigments and dyes to the synthetic chemistry that transformed what we wear and see today. Nerd Nite is like the Discovery Channel with beer: short, entertaining talks from people who know a lot about something fascinating, with plenty of time to grab a drink, meet other curious humans, and ask questions. You do NOT need to be a scientist, academic, or professional nerd to come. Curiosity is enough. Come alone. Bring a friend. Bring the person who always says, “Wait, but how does that actually work?”…

Cathartic Fall in the Park | Live Outdoor Headphone Concert in Colorado Springs
Presented by Cathartic Fall at Memorial Park - Criterium Cricket Ground Colorado Springs, CO
Put on a pair of wireless headphones and settle into an immersive experience of music and self-reflection. Through ambient piano, guitar, layered instrumentation, voice, and cinematic soundscapes, the outside world begins to fade into the background. Rather than sitting in rows watching a performance, you’re invited to experience the music in whatever way feels natural to you. Find a place in the grass. Sit, lay down, stretch, journal, dance, or simply close your eyes and listen. There isn’t a right way to experience the evening—only an opportunity to slow down, step away from distraction, and spend a little time fully present. Because every performance is improvised, no two evenings are ever the same. The Experience A live cinematic performance of piano, voice, ambient textures, and layered instrumentation, created entirely in real time An intimate listening experience delivered through wireless headphones The freedom to experience the music however feels right—whether that’s resting, reflecting, journaling, moving, or simply listening A shared evening with others that still feels deeply personal An opportunity to unplug, slow down, and reconnect with the present moment Before You Arrive Please arrive a few minutes early to check in and receive your wireless headphones. Headphones are included with your ticket and are available in limited quantity, so we recommend reserving your spot in advance.
