Have you ever wondered what makes falcons the fastest animals in the world? Can owls really turn their head all the way around? Birds of prey have fascinated humans for thousands of years and have been important symbols (both positive and negative) in cultures throughout the world. This program on raptors in Colorado will introduce participants to these fascinating animals by discussing their unique adaptations, their individual hunting strategies, and their conservation challenges. This program will take place on the second floor of the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center. Please note that there are no live animals in this program. Parade Puppets

Parade Puppets Camp Step into a world of imagination at our very first Parade Puppets Camp, where creativity takes center stage and kids become makers, designers, and parade performers. Designed for children ages 9–13, this hands-on camp invites young artists to dream up and build their very own parade‑sized puppet, culminating in a joyful march through the Green Mountain Falls 4th of July Parade. Campers will learn from award‑winning puppeteer Katy Williams, who brings her expertise, artistry, and deep commitment to safety to every step of the process. Under her direct supervision, children will explore the fundamentals of puppet construction and safely learn to use essential tools—including hand saws, hammers, pliers, electric drills, and even a chop saw. No camper will ever use a tool without one‑on‑one guidance. Beyond the workshop, campers will enjoy the stunning natural setting of the Green Box Arts campus. Days will be filled with creative building sessions, playful time in the streams, lunch on the green, and an inspirational hike to spark ideas for th eir giant parade creations. By the end of the week, each child will proudly debut a puppet that is entirely their own—an unforgettable blend of imagination, engineering, and summertime adventure. Celebrating Women’s History Month, come and learn about a few of the region’s incredible women. From Katharine Lee Bates to Nancy Lewis, southern Colorado women have left their mark. Join Park Guide Jennifer for this lively walk that is HERstory mixed with fun facts. This easy walk is on sidewalk trails and is around a mile in length. The walk begins at the trailhead for the Perkins Central Garden Trail at parking lot 2. Dress for the weather, and sturdy shoes and water are recommended. In the event of inclement weather, this program will become an indoor presentation at the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center.
