First Friday and Opening Celebration of 'Here and Now, Then and Always'
Presented by Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College at Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College Colorado Springs, CO
Join us for the opening of Here and Now, Then and Always, a new exhibition featuring the Fine Arts Center Museum’s permanent collection alongside new commissions by Colorado artists. Enjoy an evening of art, conversation, and community during First Friday. Hear from the exhibition curators, explore the galleries, and experience an exhibition that examines place, identity, community, and change through works spanning generations. Admission is free, and RSVPs are encouraged. Your RSVP includes access to the opening celebration, First Friday activities, and all museum galleries. About Here and Now, Then and Always: This exhibition draws from the permanent collection to examine artistic practices across the region now called Colorado. Curated pairings of works explore both continuities and divergences in regional artmaking: how have artists engaged with place, identity, and community across generations? What tensions emerge between celebration and critique, between natural beauty and development, between different communities’ relationships to this landscape? From 19th-century landscape photography to contemporary boundary-pushing work, these pairings reveal how artists have consistently grappled with questions of belonging, power, and transformation, while newly commissioned and selected responses from Colorado artists bring fresh perspectives to these histories.
