Violins & Vino

Spend an unforgettable evening with Colorado Springs’ young musicians at Violins & Vino, an Italian-inspired benefit supporting the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association’s Capital Campaign. The evening includes student performances, wine, dinner by Picnic Basket, bid board and more. VIP guests are invited to begin the evening at 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner and the program at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $150 for VIP admission or $100 for general admission. Sponsored tables are available for $1,200. Every ticket and sponsorship helps create a welcoming, accessible and inspiring home where young musicians can learn, rehearse and perform for generations to come. Gail Beaton - Author Visit and Book Talk

Pikes Peak Library District welcomes Colorado author and historian Gail Beaton for an engaging presentation on her new book, Colorado Women Homesteaders. This program is being offered to commemorate the Colorado 150 and US 250 anniversaries, as a part of the All Pikes Peak Reads (APPR) program. From the author: Nearly 13,000 women homesteaded in Colorado, staking claims, building businesses, raising families, and helping shape the Centennial State. Through diary entries, letters, photographs, and meticulous research, acclaimed Colorado historian and author Gail M. Beaton brings their remarkable stories of life, resilience, and independence to life. As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Colorado statehood, join us for a look at the history of the women who homesteaded our state. Raptors of Colorado

Have you ever wondered what makes falcons the fastest animals in the world? Can owls really turn their head all the way around? Birds of prey have fascinated humans for thousands of years and have been important symbols (both positive and negative) in cultures throughout the world. This program on raptors in Colorado will introduce participants to these fascinating animals by discussing their unique adaptations, their individual hunting strategies, and their conservation challenges. This program will take place on the second floor of the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center. Please note that there are no live animals in this program. PopUp Choir

What is a PopUp Choir? A PopUp Choir is a one-night event where people who love to sing (amateurs, professionals, karaoke masters) get together and sing! Everyone is welcome! (It is not a concert - we sing for the pleasure of singing - a joyful experience and connection are the goal - not perfection.) Every event is unique. The dynamics change depending on the singers, song choice, and facilitator. It simply is something you must experience to truly understand. Everyone is Welcome! Yes, everyone! Come as you are. Even if you don’t want to sing but just want to hang out and have a really cool experience, we would love to have you there. Reserve your sport today and get to know some incredible Springs’ residents. Before the Event! Once you register for the PopUp choir you will receive an email with your practice track and access to your sheet music. For the month of October we will be singing, “Sleep” by Eric Witacre. Evening of the Event On the evening of the event signers will arrive at the Meanwhile Block. Once we have settled in we will warm up, spend some time getting to know each other, and practice in sections (based on voice part.) The evening will conclude with everyone signing together as a choir. Don’t forget to bring your sheet music, a water bottle, and a pencil with you. Where do the proceeds from the event go? Bats & Balsa: Paint Your Own Ornament

Join us after hours for a fun afternoon of painting, bats, and creativity! Each participant will receive a fair-trade balsa-wood bat ornament to paint and take home. We’ll also share a few fascinating facts about Colorado’s bats and some simple ways we can help these important nighttime neighbors. The event is free but space is limited, and advance registration is required.
