Opera Bus Pre-Event: 'What’s All the Singing About?'
Presented by KCME 88.7 FM at KCME Studio Colorado Springs, CO
Once infamously described as "an exotic and irrational entertainment," what we know as opera was originally conceived as a union of several arts: poetry, music, acting, stagecraft, and dance. Four hundred years later, is opera still relevant? Why does it persist? As Robert Benchley once remarked, "Opera is where a guy gets stabbed in the back, and instead of dying, he sings." So let's explore what the singing is about and what it's been like throughout the history of this unique art form. This calendar listing is brought to you by Peak Radar, the Pikes Peak region's one-stop, online website for arts and entertainment events, powered by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region.

Opera On Screen – Santa Fe Opera’s La Bohème
Presented by Green Box at Sallie Bush Community Building Green Mountain Falls, CO
Recorded live at the Santa Fe Opera during the 2025 season, Opera on Screen offers audiences a fresh way to engage with La Boheme, the timeless tale of love and friendship set to some of opera’s best-loved music. Composed by Giacomo Puccini, La Bohème is set in the vibrant playground of 1920s Paris, where six Bohemians come together in pursuit of connection, meaning and artistic greatness. In advance of our first screening of Santa Fe Opera’s La Bohème, we invite you to gather your picnic baskets and join friends on the lawn. Bring your own blanket, camp chairs, and/or foldable tables (or arrive early to stake out a spot at one of our picnic tables). Parking spots adjacent to Pool Park will also be available if you are a tailgate purist, and want to enjoy the festivities out of the trunk of your vehicle. Consider bringing a fun culinary experience and celebratory beverages. Feel free to dress for the occasion, especially if you plan on attending the opera screening at 7 pm – from bolos to ballgowns, all forms of creative expression are welcome! Mikah Meyer – 'Parks Unknown'
Presented by Green Box at Sallie Bush Community Building Green Mountain Falls, CO
In 2005, days after his father’s funeral, 19-year-old Mikah embarked on his first independent road trip. What was initially planned as a post-freshman year getaway quickly became a transformative experience that showed Mikah the healing power of road trips. At age 30, Mikah honored his father’s lost-retirement, and the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service, by tackling one of his retirement goals at an age before his father’s 58-year-old passing: Visiting every single one of the 400+ U.S. National Park Service sites—nonstop. After traveling nearly 200,000 miles to every one of the 50 U.S. States, 5 Territories, and 1 District of Columbia, Mikah’s project completed its Finale on April 29, 2019, just steps from where it began at the Washington Monument, when he climbed the steps of The Lincoln Memorial. With 2026 marking the 250th Birthday of America, Mikah is honoring “America250” with the production of his one-man show “Mikah Meyer: Parks Unknown” – a multimedia presentation that is equal parts Rick Steves, Kevin Hart, and Dolly Parton.
