The Art of Animal Tracking

Whose scat is that? Become a nature detective in this fun, hands-on program that introduces participants to the art of reading the landscape. Learn how to identify tracks, scat, and other animal signs left behind by species that live in the Garden of the Gods. This is an indoor presentation. All are welcome, though the program is designed with ages 8 and up in mind. PPLD Summer Adventure Celebration Concert featuring Steve Weeks

Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) is changing its Summer Adventure Celebrations, presented by Friends of the Pikes Peak Library District, to a series of concert celebrations spread throughout the two-month reading program. This exciting new line up kicks off June 1st at Library 21c and East Library with two concerts at each location. While you are there, don’t forget to register for Summer Adventure and pick up your registration prizes! The concert celebrations kick off opening day of Summer Adventure, Mon., June 1, at East Library and Library 21c. There will be a total of four concerts that day, at 2 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m. at both locations. The celebrations continue at 10:30 a.m. at High Prairie Library on Sat., June 13, and at 6 p.m. on Fri., July 10, at Palmer Lake Library. Both concerts mark the mid-point of the program, which encourages families – adults and children alike – to read together to avoid the summer slump of lost reading skills during the break from school. The musical fun wraps up at Fountain Library at 10:30 a.m. on Fri., July 17, and at 6 p.m. on Wed., July 29 at Manitou Springs Library. Designed for elementary school ages, but open to all. Colorado is famous for its dinosaurs. Come learn more about these amazing animals and why so many species have been found here. Join Park Guide Jennifer and explore a different dinosaur or learn about the history of fossil hunting. This fun and informative program includes an activity and/or craft on the featured dinosaur. This indoor program meets in the Red Rocks room on the second floor. Poetry and Pottery

We provide all the materials, just bring your imagination and sense of fun. Pottery teachers will show you how to use a potting wheel. You can come back the next week to pick up your pot to glaze it and take it home! Hand building is available, too. Write poems with the support of writing mentors using our prompts and other materials to got started. Write group poems with the direction of the mentors. Contribute to a community poem that will be published at the end of July. All ages and abilities are most welcome to join in. There will soup available if you are hungry. Story and Crafts with Cynde

Story and Crafts with Cynde engages children through stories, songs, rhymes, and movement, provides literacy and language development opportunities, and helps foster socialization skills. “Miss Cynde” worked for many years in a public library setting, focusing on programming and services for children, teens, and families, and is excited to share her love of stories and reading. It is appropriate for children ages 4-7, along with their caregiver. Story and Crafts with Cynde is a free program held at Reading at the Rock Library, a community-run library run by COS Reads, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. On Wednesday afternoons at 3:45 pm, during the summer. All materials are included, so come on by for some literacy and crafty fun.
