Family Exploration Day
Presented by Penrose Heritage Museum at Penrose Heritage Museum Colorado Springs, CO
Discover rare historic race cars and carriages, and explore unique Penrose family artifacts and regional history, including a new exhibit celebrating the early days of Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Participate in a philanthropy activity by voting for one of four local organizations to receive a share of a $10,000 El Pomar Foundation contribution: Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College, Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, or Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. To celebrate the centennial of Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, founded by Spencer Penrose in 1926, Family Exploration Day will feature a fun zoo-themed twist. Guests can enjoy special activities such as animal-themed BINGO and a station where you can create your own paper “giraffe crown.” Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s ZooMobile program will also be on-site with special animal visitors. Family Exploration Day is filled with lots of family-friendly and hands-on activities! A scavenger hunt: Build-Your-Own Lego car race. Animal-themed face painting. Frank Waters & Golden Quill Literary Awards Luncheon

This signature event honors two outstanding writers—one nationally recognized and one local voice—whose work reflects the depth and impact of the written word. The 2026 Frank Waters Award will be presented to acclaimed author and environmental writer Terry Tempest Williams, known for her powerful explorations of nature, culture, and the American West. The Golden Quill Award will honor Nancy Bentley, a celebrated local author, filmmaker, and educator whose work has enriched the Pikes Peak region and inspired readers of all ages. Guests will enjoy a meaningful program recognizing literary achievement while connecting with fellow readers, writers, and community members. Now in its third decade, this beloved event continues to highlight the importance of literature in shaping our understanding of the world and strengthening our community. Sunnyside Cemetery Tours

Guided walking tours of the Sunnyside Cemetery near Victor, sponsored by the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum, will be held June 6 through Sept. 19 - the first Saturdays of each month at 10 am and third Saturdays of each month at 1 pm, weather allowing. Local historians Alicia Petri Harrington and Veldean Myers will be conducting the tours, sharing histories of families who pioneered the gold rush day, telling stories of resilient women, brave men, grave robbers, and unusual characters. Meet just outside the cemetery gate in Pauper’s Field (Teller County Road 87 southwest of Victor). This event highlights the importance of the people who lived through Cripple Creek Victor Gold Rush in the history of the western United States and Colorado during the 250/150 celebration this summer. 'The Garbologists'

Written by Lindsay Joelle and Directed by GerRee Hinshaw. Danny is a white, blue-collar, born-and-bred New Yorker. Marlowe is Black, Ivy-League-educated, and just joined the sanitation department. They’ve got one thing in common: the route. Over the course of countless trash pickups, this odd couple bickers, bonds, and uncovers unexpected truths about themselves—and the city they serve. Directed by GerRee Hinshaw (Dream Hou$e), The Garbologists is a sharp and heartfelt comedy about finding connection in the mess of everyday life. 4th Annual Bee-Yond Family Fun Event

PPLD Summer Adventure Celebration Concert featuring Jodi Koplin

Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) is changing its Summer Adventure Celebrations, presented by Friends of the Pikes Peak Library District, to a series of concert celebrations spread throughout the two-month reading program. This exciting new line up kicks off June 1st at Library 21c and East Library with two concerts at each location. While you are there, don’t forget to register for Summer Adventure and pick up your registration prizes! The concert celebrations kick off opening day of Summer Adventure, Mon., June 1, at East Library and Library 21c. There will be a total of four concerts that day, at 2 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m. at both locations. The celebrations continue at 10:30 a.m. at High Prairie Library on Sat., June 13, and at 6 p.m. on Fri., July 10, at Palmer Lake Library. Both concerts mark the mid-point of the program, which encourages families – adults and children alike – to read together to avoid the summer slump of lost reading skills during the break from school. The musical fun wraps up at Fountain Library at 10:30 a.m. on Fri., July 17, and at 6 p.m. on Wed., July 29 at Manitou Springs Library. Summer Concerts at Gold Hill Mesa

The band features nine seasoned female members from popular Colorado bands who play, sing, and groove to classic songs we all love . Their musicianship is top notch, their lead vocals and harmonies will melt your heart. Come see for yourself, these powerful musicians and vocalists blending their collective talents to bring out the “Groove Goddess” in You! The set list will make you want to dance and sing along, so bring your best friends for a celebration of women in music. Our fearless leader bassist Jodie Woodward dreamed up this women centric event to shine a light on women in the Colorado music scene. We have been joining forces for many years under many different band names including Women Rock The Night, Ladies Sing the Blues, All-Star Female Revue and Hermonious. We have graced the stages of the Buffalo Rose, Niwot Rock and Rails, Nissi’s, and the Boulder Creek Festival, just to name a few. We are bonded by our love of music and friendship in an industry where we have been overlooked and underestimated. We collaborate for a cause, We are strong, but we are stronger together!
