Activities & Tips in Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region

Golden days of summer in colorado springs

Summer is the real reason we love Colorado. It’s the magic time, when the weather is beautiful, the state really shows off it’s Colorful Colorado moniker, and the days are long enough to let you soak it all in. Summer in Colorado Springs means that from every hilltop you can look over a city awash in green. The birds are so prevalent you will find yourself daydreaming to their song. And although the days can get warm, there’s so little humidity, the warmth can literally feel like it’s recharging your soul. I know. It sounds a little hokey, but try it for yourself and tell me I’m wrong.

Summer is also the time when ALL of our attractions are fully open and the delight of the season is palpable in the air. We have 24 awesome attractions to keep you hopping all day long, but do yourself a favor, find a patio, a porch, a deck, some outdoor living space to sit outside and enjoy the evening. You may need a jacket, it cools off quickly as the sun goes down, but take a minute and experience that moment in Colorado. It’s almost like the earth takes a deep breath and settles in for the night. If you need to recharge, you’ve come to the right place. I hope you love it as much as I do. Welcome to summer in Colorado.

Tips for Summer Adventure

  • Pack Layers

If you’ve spent any time on this site, you’re probably tired of us telling you to pack layers. We are really serious about this. Mid summer, the temperature in Colorado Springs could be 90 degrees fahrenheit, but the temperature at the top of Pikes Peak is only 50. The temperature inside the Cave of the Winds is a steady 54 degrees year around. Once the sun goes behind the mountain, temperatures drop quickly. Trust us. Layers!

  • Temperature

Mid July to early August can hit some mid-90 degree days, but we spend most of the summer in the 70′ and 80’s. Keep in mind that it’s significantly cooler in the shade, at higher elevations, and when the sun goes down.

  • Wear Sunscreen

300 days of sunshine isn’t just a clever tagline, we really have that many blue-sky days here. Colorado Springs sits just over 6,000 feet in elevation, which means you’ll take in the sun faster than you do at sea level. Floppy hats are totally all the rage here, too!

  • Stay Hydrated

Welcome to our sunny sub-alpine desert, where the annual average humidity hovers just under 40%. Drink plenty of water and pack lotion and chapstick. We also sit at the top of the headwaters so that water coming out of the tap here, was snow in the mountains not too long ago. We have some of the purest tap water in the country. So bring your favorite water bottle and fill up often! You can thank us later.
