Located along Highway 50 west of Cañon City, 8 Mile Bar and Grill welcomes hungry rafters, hikers and travelers with good food and cold beer from mid-May through the end of September. The restaurant is housed in the former 8 Mile General Store and the building is constructed out of planks from the original Royal Gorge Bridge. It’s a really great stop that’s situated right on the route to some of the coolest destinations and attractions in Colorado. It’s only 10 miles (16 km) from the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park and Skyline Drive and, of course right next to Echo Canyon Outfitters.

The crew at the 8 Mile Bar and Grill knows that everyone stopping in to dine is hungry. How can you not be? You’ve just been out in Colorado, hiking trails, driving scenic highways and rafting in the rapids. You need fuel so you can recover (or head out and do even more). The restaurant menu is packed with filling portions of classic favorites like cheeseburgers, cheesesteaks, hot and crispy fries and huge dinner salads. Menu highlights include:

• Cheeseburger: You can never go wrong with a beloved tradition. Choice of cheese — sub for bison to make it lean and extra flavorful.
• Cherry chicken salad sandwich: Trust us, cherries on a chicken salad sandwich are delicious. The croissant is a perfect vessel for the filling, too.
• Pasta bake: House-made marinara and three cheeses come together to create the perfect dish for a pre-hike lunch or recovery fuel after a day on the water.

Dietary Accommodations

8 Mile Bar and Grill has several vegetarian options on the menu, including the ability to sub out your burger patty for a veggie option. The menu notes that the only accommodations possible are those listed, so review carefully. 8 Mile also offers a children’s menu with kid favorites like chicken fingers and grilled cheese.

Daily Specials

The restaurant offers guests daily specials like $3 off apps and a discount on your dog’s meal on Dog Night. Happy Hour runs seven days a week with specials on craft cocktails and draft beers.

The Coolest Place to Relax in Southern Colorado

If you’ve spent a day rafting with Echo Canyon or roaming the Royal Gorge Bridge, you’re definitely going to need some time to relax and re-charge. The 8 Mile Bar and Grill is huge — it’s meant to host lots of hungry rafters after excursions so they offer lots of tables and chairs inside and outside the restaurant. Visitors rave about the vibe and overall atmosphere, as well as the bar menu.

The views are vast, with the canyons of the Southwest in the forefront and the mountains spread out into the distance. Even the close-up view is pretty. The landscaped patio area has the feel of a summer garden party, with festoon twinkle lights and a welcoming atmosphere. Did we mention the fire pits?

8 Mile Catering and Boxed Lunches

Hosting an event in a less-populated region can make finding the right venue or caterer pretty difficult. The 8 Mile Bar and Grill has both boxed lunch options and staff-attended buffets featuring a variety of price points and food options.
