Your dinner is served up on a tin plate with a tin cup, also like it was for Cookie’s cowboys. Meals are taken in the gigantic, rustic dining hall with giant bay doors that open wide onto the grounds. The food is great — classic flavors and very filling. Beverage options are lemonade, iced tea, bootsock coffee and water.
Flying W Ranch provides vegetarian and gluten-free substitutions. Be sure to mention your allergy or accommodation when you make your reservation.
The Flying W Wranglers will entertain with the sweet strains of the cowboy jams that once drifted across the hills when the attraction was a real working cattle ranch! These cowboy singers are the real deal. They’ve traveled the world and sold albums of their music. In fact, they’re the second oldest Western singing act in the world! Sixty different members have been a part of the band in the last 70+ years the group has been performing — some members for more than 30 years at a time! They’re not just talented singers, either. Guests will enjoy lots of banter, clean humor and audience engagement from the merry band of singers. It’s a feel-good evening that you and your family will treasure.
The Western Grounds open an hour and a half before dinner begins, giving you the opportunity to explore and work up an appetite before you eat. The property is nothing short of stunning. Guests love the miniature red rock formations that mimic the giant neighboring rocks to the south in Garden of the Gods. There’s a tranquil pond, a lovely stream and plenty of views.
Several activities are also available during the pre-dinner hour. Visit the ranch animals, check out demonstrations like weaving and blacksmithing, try out axe throwing or take a short hike. The Sweetwater Plains dancers provide frequent performances during the summer season, too!
The Flying W Ranch isn’t just a cool place to dine, it’s a piece of Colorado history. Long before it was a popular destination for chuckwagon suppers and Western-themed weddings, the Flying W was a working cattle ranch, complete with cowboys, horses and, of course, cows. Over time, the property was eventually converted into the stunning local attraction it is today, but it still remains one of the last remaining original ranches from Colorado’s earliest days. The property has remained in the same family for decades, with each new generation taking over the mantle and continuing to grow the family business. That includes rebuilding the property after fires and flooding ravaged the land and its historic structures!
Their hard work definitely created a dynamic place for dinner! Millions of families have visited the Flying W Ranch, some bringing multiple generations back for suppers year after year. There’s something extra special about a place people love so much they make it a tradition to share with their children and their children’s children. The ranch has served famous celebrities (they won’t tell us who), and even a Shah of Iran! Those grounds have been host to thousands of suppers and will likely see thousands more in the years to come.
