What you can do

Get into the details

The purple mountain majesties surrounding Colorado Springs are stunning to observe, with Pikes Peak — America’s Mountain as the shining jewel in the center of their panoramic crown. If you’ve been searching for a way to tour the Pikes Peak Highway without your eyes glued to the road and your knuckles gripping the steering wheel, we have has just the ticket! With the Pikes Peak Tour by Gray Line experience, you can leave the driving to the experts and summit the awe-inspiring fourteener from the comfort of cozy seats in a roomy, temperature-controlled tour coach.

While many tours may rush you to and from your destination, Gray Line Tours — which has a 42-year history of showing visitors the beauty of Colorado — makes your Pikes Peak tour a leisurely adventure. During the tour’s four-hour span, you’ll make frequent stops at locations such as Crystal Reservoir, historic Glen Cove, the coveted summit of Pikes Peak and many other points of interest. Not only do these stops allow you lots of opportunities to snap shots of the amazing scenery, they also help you adapt to the altitude in a way that zipping straight to the top will not. Wide windows allow for maximum oohing and aahing when you’re in the tour bus, ensuring you won’t miss a minute of the sights that abound on Pikes Peak.

No tour of Pikes Peak is complete without a great guide, and the drivers and tour guides at Gray Line strike the perfect balance of knowledge, friendliness and humor that is anything but stuffy or boring. It’s more like a casual conversation between friends — which is exactly how it should be! By the time you’ve finished the journey, you’ll know everything about the flora and fauna of the Pikes Peak region, from the pines and columbines, to the big horn sheep and yellow-bellied marmots. You’ll also learn about the geology of the mountain and its history.

You’ll be able to focus on the sights and sounds stress-free because Gray Line drivers are second to none, with safety as their primary focus at all times. No one knows the switchbacks, hairpin turns and inclement weather conditions better — after all, Gray Line vehicles climb Pikes Peak as many as four times a day in the summer, not to mention daily tours in the fall, winter and spring. In short, their drivers know the Pikes Peak Highway like it’s the road home and they’ll make you feel safe and secure throughout the journey.

Once you hit the top of Pikes Peak, you’ll be able to explore the summit for 30-40 minutes. Take photos, peek over the rocks and edges and make a stop in the Summit Visitor Center. Inside are snacks and more filling fare, including burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches. You can also get fresh-made fudge (get extra for the ride back). Since it’s usually chilly at the summit, a cup of hot cocoa or coffee can warm you right up, especially paired with Pikes Peak’s world-famous fresh and hot donuts. They’re made with a special recipe that allows them to be at peak fluffy goodness.

Your trip back to the Pikes Peak Tour by Gray Line basecamp in downtown Colorado Springs will be just as relaxing and filled with beautiful sights as your trip up the Pikes Peak Highway.

If you are searching for the ultimate Pikes Peak tour experience, Pikes Peak Tour by Gray Line delivers like no other. All you have to do is board the shuttle and they’ll do the rest. Make their Pikes Peak Experience Tour a top priority on your visit to Colorado Springs — you will be so glad you did!
