Adventures Out West
The snapshot
Adventures Out West has been taking visitors and locals on grand adventures for over 50 years. Hot air balloon rides, zip lines, Segway tours, Jeep tours, bike tours — if it's outdoors and fun, they probably do it!
The full experience
The Pikes Peak region is a great place for visitors and locals to play outside — and Adventures Out West is here to maximize your fun. Adventures Out West and its trusty crew of fun-loving guides specialize in bringing you the quintessential Rocky Mountain experience.
In the Air
Hot Air Balloons
Watch the panorama of Colorado’s splendor light up as the sun rises on the eastern plains, drifting gently through the sky in a hot air balloon. It’s a perfect treat for families and friends alike. It also creates a romantic experience for marriage proposals, special anniversaries or even a unique date.
Zip Lines
For those who like soaring through the air with a bit more speed and adrenaline, Adventures Out West provides exhilarating, two-hour zip line tours in the forests, hills and cliffs that surround Manitou Springs. Their zips are some of the best in Colorado. Flyers can leap from cliffs and cruise as high as 100 feet above the world. Their platforms are natural terrain, which makes you feel like you are on an epic quest as you launch yourself to the next landing zone.
On the Ground
Jeeps & Hiking
If it’s beginning to sound like Adventures Out West has a lot to do, you’re not wrong. You can also ride around the Pikes Peak region in a roomy, open-air, 4×4 Jeep. Tours last as long as four hours. There’s one that takes you all the way to the summit of Pikes Peak. They’ve also got an exciting Jeep and rafting tour combo. Enjoy the scenery of the Pikes Peak region and then paddle the white-water rapids of the Arkansas River. Did you know they have hikes, too? Explore the less-traveled trails that surround Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs. Participants are led by experienced guides who will ensure you see the Rockies like never before — and return home safe.
Segway Tours
Those who want their adventure in Colorado to be a bit more relaxing without sacrificing fun will find the perfect opportunity on the Adventures Out West Segway tour through the world-famous Garden of the Gods. Known as one of the more challenging Segway (self-balancing, two-wheeled personal scooters) routes in the United States, you’ll conquer hills and drop-offs and scenery that will amaze you. Your guide will also give you all sorts of fun facts about the region and they give you a Segway lesson before the trip so you can ride safely.
Bike Tours
Looking for something unforgettable? Adventures Out West offers mountain biking tours through our region’s most scenic trails and roads. You can also try biking downhill for 19 miles on the highest bike tour in the US — the Pikes Peak E-Bike Tour. This tour is the ultimate Pikes Peak experience. Enjoy a scenic drive up the Pikes Peak Highway with a Colorado expert who will answer all your questions and tell you some interesting stories about the region. Then, explore the summit of Pikes Peak and finish off with a thrilling ride back down and lunch. Riders will be outfitted with bikes and helmets. For a slightly lower elevation ride, book the Gold Camp Road E-Bike Tour that explores one of the most famous routes in the region. Tours are small, making it easier to travel in a group.
When the folks at Adventures Out West tell you that “adventure starts here”, that’s pretty much the only time they aren’t playing around. That’s because making your next trip memorable is serious work. Better get planning!

What we love (and you will too)

Your Local Guide, Peter Cole
Peter is always looking - looking for an answer to a question he doesn't know, looking for something new to learn or looking for the best place to try some new cuisine.
I have read a lot of local history, but the tour guides with AOW have so many stories - they tell them well and some I've never heard!
Seasonal Hack
Be sure to come in the fall for the Jeep tours. The changing leaves make the landscape unbelievably beautiful!

FAQs about Adventures Out West
What's AOW's Jeep ride up Pikes Peak like?
The Pikes Peak Highway is 19 gorgeous miles of countryside that curves through different biomes and ends at the 14,115 foot summit of our favorite mountain. The highway is paved all the way to the summit and it’s completely safe to drive. However, if you’ve never done it, you’re going to spend all your time watching the road and not enjoying the experience. Check out Adventures Out West’s custom, open-air Jeep and Hummer tours to get the most out of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. They’ll handle all the gate fees, provide water and snacks, and even have wool blankets to keep your toes warm in that cool mountain air. The driver knows all the best places to stop for photos and will share history, help you spot wildlife and explain the different biomes. Plan on 3-4 hours for the roundtrip. Be sure to make reservations!
Are there any restrictions on the zip lines?
Visitors 6 years or older, between 40 and 300 lbs, will love AOW’s natural-terrain ziplines. Ranging in height from 80 feet (24 m) to 110 feet (33 m) from the canyon floor, and 225 feet (69 m) to 650 feet (200 m) in length, this is unlike anything you’ve done before! Plan for about 2 hours and be sure to make reservations.
Where can we catch the Segway Tours?
The Segway tours go through Garden of the Gods and depart from the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center. You must be at least 12 years old and weigh between 90-260 pounds (41-118 kg). Plan for 2-3 hours, and reservations are always preferred.
Does AOW offer any combo packages?
Yes! There are a number of different packages available. The most popular is the Jeep and rafting trip or the Jeep and horseback adventure. Call for more details or to inquire about other ideas you may have.
Are hot air balloon rides available anytime?
Balloon rides are available daily at sunrise, weather-permitting, and by reservation only. Riders must be at least 6 years of age. Plan on 3-4 hours of activity with 1 hour in the air.
Do I need to make reservations?
Yes! AOW recommends making reservations for all of their activities. Although, they can occasionally accommodate on short notice depending on time of year.
Where do they offer guided hikes?
AOW leads hikes in Garden of the Gods and Cheyenne Canyon. They are perfect for family groups or corporate team building. AOW will design the excursion to your group’s desires and abilities.
