Royal Gorge Bridge Record CompanyIn addition to its daytime music lineup that runs all summer long, the Royal Gorge also offers a special concert series called Park After Dark. Grab a picnic blanket, comfy lawn chairs and your favorite dancing shoes for an evening of live music covered only by the Colorado summer sky and surrounded by the panorama of the mountains. Concessions are available for purchase and you can enjoy alcoholic beverages at Café 1230, Bridgeview BBQ, Elk Park Amphitheater and Bristol Brewery (bringing sealed water along is fine). Colorado Rocks

You know those super cool and colorful rocks you’ve seen pop up throughout Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region? They’re fun, right? There’s something magical about discovering one on a hike or a walk about town. At the Royal Gorge, kids will get a chance to make their very own cool Colorado rock for free every weekend over the summer months. Paint and stones will be provided, no need to bring your own. By the way, it’s totally okay to fall in love with your rock and keep it. We won’t tell. (Rock painting runs from 12:30-4:30 p.m.)

Nature Educators: Birds of Prey

Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at the Royal Gorge can get a little wild — and we’re not talking about the Sky Coaster. Nope, every weekend during the summer, you can learn all about majestic birds of prey from nature experts during fun raptor talks from Nature Educators. The educational-but-exciting talks are fun for all ages and everyone will leave knowing something new about the fascinating birds that live all around us. Plus, you’ll get to see some of these awesome birds in person! Talks last about 20 minutes and occur on the hour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Royal 50 Mountain Bike Race

Even if you’re not a mountain biker, the Royal 50 Mountain Bike Race is still awesome for spectators (and you get discounted admission of $17 if you pre-purchase here). Festivities for the race include live entertainment and a party to celebrate that is welcoming to everyone! However, if you are of the mountain biking mind, this incredible 50-mile race (and 20-mile race called the Gorgeous 20) is sure to please. A single-track course leads you through Colorado scenery, complete with technical challenges, hills and fun. The race is held on Saturday, September 22 and features awards for various age groups. Cost for either distance is $85 through Aug. 21. You can register at
