Free Mother's Day Activities

You don’t need a lot of money to make your mom feel special — especially with all of the great free Mother’s Day activities in Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region.

Take a Hike in Garden of the Gods

Colorado’s favorite geological park is always and forever free and it’s a great place to take your mom for a budget-friendly Mother’s Day. The Garden of the Gods offers miles of hiking trails, stunning rock formations, interpretive signage and lots of chances to check out wildflowers and local wildlife.

To maximize your fun in the Garden, it’s a good idea to carpool, as it’s a very popular location and parking can fill up fast. Arriving earlier in the day or waiting until the evening can also help you beat the crowds. Dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes. If you have the budget for a little treat, pay a visit to the Garden of the Gods Trading Post for ice cream, fudge or coffee. It’s located near Balanced Rock and the locals’ entrance to the Garden.

Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum

The Pioneer Museum surrounded by colorful foliage.

Is your mom into Colorado history and local lore? The Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum is a free favorite located right in Downtown Colorado Springs. It’s housed in the historic 1903 El Paso County Courthouse — artifacts within a historic artifact! The exhibits in the museum vary, with diverse topics ranging from the rich cultural heritage in the region to camping and guest exhibitions.

Art on the Streets

Colorado Springs is home to some incredible outdoor art, thanks to the hard work of the Downtown Partnership, and, of course, incredibly talented artists. Visitors can take themselves on a self-guided tour to view them all with an easy-to-use app that includes commentary from the artists themselves about their work.

This freebie tour will take you all about the downtown area, stretching from Boulder Street all the way to Costilla Street. In between, you can pop into various galleries for indoor art, or do a little window shopping. Don’t forget that the current tour only includes select works for the year. You will see many other sculptures and murals during your walk.

Note: The Downtown Partnership will be on Tejon Street at 11 a.m. handing out flowers and tote bags while supplies last.

BOGO Admission to Pikes Peak for Moms

Driving up Pikes Peak highway

Take mom on an epic adventure with BOGO admission to the Pikes Peak Highway on Mother’s Day! It has everything you could want in an excursion, like quality time, beautiful scenic views and hot donuts. Donuts, you ask? Yes, made fresh to order using a specialty recipe made for high altitude.

The Pikes Peak Highway is a beautiful ascent through multiple life zones, with plenty of places to stop and hike, picnic or relax and enjoy nature. You’ll climb above the clouds, above the guardrails and way, way above the world below to discover the panorama of five different states stretched out to the horizon.

At the Summit House, you can explore the interpretive signage, pick up a little present for mom at the gift shop and enjoy some of those tasty donuts. On the way back down, you can be sure to stop in all the cool spots you missed on the way up to capture more moments for mom.
